CAI (Community Association Institute) Board Leadership Development Workshop

We will have the Greater Houston Community Association Institute conduct a Board Leadership Development Workshop on Saturday February 17 from 9:00 am to 4:00 PM at City Hall. This workshop will be extremely beneficial for HOA board members and managers, as it will cover very important topics related to HOA operations, management and responsibilities.

Please see the link below for more information and to register to attend. Cost to attend will be $55 for CAI member and $65 for non-CAI members. Each participant will receive a toolkit of support materials including manuals and workbooks.

Registration link:

http://www.caihouston.org/events/EventDetails.aspx?id=1004281&group=

The deadline to register is Monday February 12 at 5:00 pm. Also, attached is flyer with more details about the training and registration. CAI requires at least 15 people in attendance to conduct this workshop. It is a very time intensive workshop and requires a lot of preparation for the presentation and the materials to be distributed. In addition, the presenters come from the Houston area and beyond to conduct this workshop. Therefore, if we are unable to get at least 15 people registered, the workshop will be cancelled. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the workshop scheduled in October because we did not have enough people signed up. Please pass this along to others on your HOA board that may be interested in attending.

Association contact changes

If your association has changes for contact persons or association leadership for 2018, please send the new contact person’s name, address, email and phone numbers. It is very important to have the correct contact information on file with the city. We use this information to send letters, post cards and emails to notify associations about public meetings, public hearings, rezonings, comp plan amendments, parking removals, utility work and more. Even if there are no changes to your association contacts, please let me know that as well.

Thanks,

When preparing for holiday travel, some folks make detailed to-do lists so they won't leave anything important behind. Gifts? Check. Christmas cookies? Check. Ugly holiday sweater? Check.

As much as we all enjoy the Christmas holidays, we don't want thieves to revel in the season at our expense. Too often, vehicles filled with shiny new gifts can be an easy mark for these sad souls.

The iconic line from the movie "Titanic" is "fatberg, right ahead!"
Wait, what?
Sorry, the line was actually about an iceberg. But "fatbergs" are real and can put a fat hole in a utility's maintenance and operations budget, not to mention causing significant impacts to water quality and the environment from sewer overflows. Fats, oils, and grease (FOG) - along with flushable and non-flushable rags and wipes - merge in our sewers to form solid, immovable blockages known in our business as fatbergs. They are worse in the winter months when cooler temperatures make it easier for the FOG to solidify.
