When preparing for holiday travel, some folks make detailed to-do lists so they won't leave anything important behind. Gifts? Check. Christmas cookies? Check. Ugly holiday sweater? Check.
If you plan to celebrate the season away from home, you might consider adding a few other items to that checklist to keep your property safe. Don't let the would-be Grinches lurking in the shadows spoil your Christmas. Good locks, simple precautions, neighborly alertness, and common sense can prevent most property crimes.

As much as we all enjoy the Christmas holidays, we don't want thieves to revel in the season at our expense. Too often, vehicles filled with shiny new gifts can be an easy mark for these sad souls.

The iconic line from the movie "Titanic" is "fatberg, right ahead!"
Wait, what?
Sorry, the line was actually about an iceberg. But "fatbergs" are real and can put a fat hole in a utility's maintenance and operations budget, not to mention causing significant impacts to water quality and the environment from sewer overflows. Fats, oils, and grease (FOG) - along with flushable and non-flushable rags and wipes - merge in our sewers to form solid, immovable blockages known in our business as fatbergs. They are worse in the winter months when cooler temperatures make it easier for the FOG to solidify.

Household Hazardous Waste Event Information

Household hazardous wastes are common materials that are used in everyday homes. Some examples include but are not limited to- paint, herbicides, pesticides, gas, diesel, batteries, unused/expired medications, cleaning agents, computers, and TVs. If managed unproperly these items can pose a threat to ground, water, air quality, and even human life.

The Twin Oaks Landfill hosts a bi-annual event to properly dispose of and in many instances, recycle the materials free of charge to the residents of the Brazos Valley. The next collection event is scheduled for October 21, 2017, at the Texas A & M University Services building parking lot from 7am- 2pm.

The Twin Oaks Landfill would like to utilize the local homeowners associations and the National Night Out campaign as an educational outlet. If your association is interested, the Twin Oaks Landfill would like to provide literature and promotional items (limited supplies) to the residents of your neighborhood.  Please feel free to contact me directly through email or phone.
